Subjects

Art & Design

As an Art student, you need to strike a good balance between doing the things you love (the creative side of you) and backing them up with hard evidence and research (the sensible side of you) if you are to succeed on the course with an excellent grade.

While Art continues to be a desirable option for students wishing to pursue ‘traditional’ creative careers, such as Architecture, Interior Design or Painting / Fine Art related professions, the internet has also seen an explosion of exciting, new roles emerge.

Biology opens up exciting career possibilities.

From conservation to cancer research, biologists are tackling important 21st century challenges. It is also important to remember that biology is excellent preparation for non-scientific careers, thanks to the skills it provides – everything from analytical thinking to writing reports.

 

Business Studies

A Level Business Studies can give you the tools and information required to understand how businesses are created, managed and become successful.

Possible career choices with A-level business studies include management, marketing, finance, accounting, banking, retailing, manufacturing and local government.

 

Chemistry

Chemistry is an engaging science concerned with the composition, structure and properties of matter.

It is a highly respected qualification, the study of which enables students to not only become more knowledgeable of the world, but also to gain important problem-solving skills which can be applied to many areas of life such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Engineering and Material Science.

 

Computer Science

Using computers has become so integral to our daily lives it would be difficult to imagine life without them.

Understanding how computing shapes our world and learning the skills necessary to be a part of this digital revolution is vital for everyone. Studying Computer Science is a key pathway for young people to secure their role in a rapidly evolving job market that already demands high levels of computing skill and literacy.

 

Economics

A-Level Economics builds the knowledge and skills needed to understand and analyse data, think critically about issues and make informed decisions.

In year one you will examine issues like competitive markets and uncover the reasons why some markets fail. In year two you will expand on your existing knowledge, with further use of complex microeconomic models, such as monopoly and oligopoly.

 

English Literature

English Literature is the study of drama, prose and poetry.

Over the year, different texts will be read in class. As well as discussing theme, character and literary technique, these works are also reviewed in the social and cultural contexts in which they were written. In addition, the students will learn how to write literary essays, and there will be considerable focus on past papers in order to facilitate a better understanding of the texts, to improve essay writing skills and of course, to best prepare the students for the examinations.

French

French can take you to Africa, Spanish and Portuguese to South America, German, Japanese, Mandarin and Hindi can get you ahead in business, Russian could see you teaching in Siberia and Arabic could give you a head start in politics.

Further Mathematics

It is a challenging qualification, which both extends and deepens your knowledge and understanding beyond the standard A level Mathematics.

As well as new learning new areas of pure mathematics you will study further applications of mathematics in mechanics, statistics and decision mathematics. If you are planning to take a degree such as Engineering, Sciences, Computing, Finance, Economics or perhaps Mathematics itself, you will benefit enormously from taking Further Mathematics.

 

Geography

Geography is a broad based academic subject which will open up options for you in your future.

Employers and universities see geography as a robust academic subject rich in skills, knowledge and understanding. As a subject linking the arts and the sciences, it is highly flexible in terms of what you can combine it with. Geography is an obvious choice for careers in sustainability and green issues, urban regeneration, energy supply, retail location, managing the effects of hazards and climate change, business and law.

 

History

History qualifications are highly regarded by businesses and universities because of the skills developed within the subject.

History students must learn to master the ability to locate, study and interpret written and visual material, in order to extract evidence and meaning. They must be adept at contextualisation, analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking. History students must be strong communicators, to express their findings clearly and effectively. These skills and knowledge can be extremely useful, both in employment and in the study of other subjects.

Mathematics

Studying maths develops your numeracy, graphical and problem-solving skills.

These skills are really useful preparation for the maths used in many university degree courses, higher apprenticeships, and the workplace. It can also increase your confidence and fluency in the maths used in everyday life. Maths qualifications are highly regarded by employers and universities. What’s more, if you’re well-qualified in maths you tend to earn more.

 

Photography

Photography develops a wide range of skills, analytical and critical thinking and problem solving, which will be useful at University and future careers.

Photography may offer a highly creative and hands-on alternative to other subjects you may be studying at A level. Photography A Level will introduce you to a variety of experiences, exploring a range of photographic media, techniques and processes. Researching the work of other photographers and artists is an integral part of the investigating and making process.

Physics

Physics encompasses the study of the universe from the largest galaxies to the smallest subatomic particles.

Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. Physics challenges our imaginations with concepts like relativity and string theory, and it leads to great discoveries, like computers and lasers, that lead to technologies which change our lives—from healing joints, to curing cancer, to developing sustainable energy solutions.

 

Psychology

A-Level Psychology is an ideal subject choice if you have an interest in understanding human behaviour from a scientific perspective.

The subject investigates and explains human behaviour: from the formation of memories through to the functioning of the central and peripheral nervous system, neurotransmitters and hormones. You will also develop an understanding of key theoretical concepts and approaches in Psychology plus an appreciation for the methods Psychologists use when conducting research.

Sociology

Sociology is the study of society – how people interact in groups.

A level Sociology examines social behaviour from a variety of perspectives: how it originates and then develops, and the ways people are organised into groups according to distinctions such as class, gender and race. A level Sociology also looks at the institutions and forces which shape and are shaped by groups within a society, such as the media, religion and education. Sociology focuses on contemporary society, providing an awareness of the importance of social structure and action in explaining social forces and issues

Monthly Payment Scheme

We are pleased to offer an interest free monthly payment scheme, payable over 12 months.

Enrolment Fee

The non-refundable enrolment fee is £300.

Additional fees information

  • Book and resource materials fee of £450.00 (per academic year): This is payable with the first term’s fees.
  • Additional GCSE subjects: For GCSE Courses, tuition fees are inclusive of PHSE, games programme
  • Examinations fees: Charged separately for all GCSE and A-level subjects. All examination fees are due 14 days from date of invoice. Failure or late payment of examination fees will result in withdrawal of all examination entries. Please note, students will be entered for examinations on the courses for which they are receiving tuition in a class. However, it is the students’ responsibility to ensure that their names are included on examination lists for all other examinations for which they wish to be entered (e.g. resits). All examinations entries will be invoiced separately
  • Additional A-Level subjects: The fourth subject at A Level incurs no fee, and should only be taken by students who have strong enough grades at GCSE
  • Science Practicals: There is no additional fee for science practicals or use of ICT/Computers
